RIP Coach Mulkey....

On June 18 2007 Coach Lewis Mulkey was killed in his 2nd job as a fireman. He was The coach of the Summerville SC HS Basketball team. When he took over the program he told his kids that theyd have a State championship in 5 years. That was 5 years ago. The coach cared for his kids, he didnt have children of his own, the new coach Tee Neuman, knew this year would be special,The fire dept gave the team a firemans helmet w/ coach Mulkeys name on it, they took it to every game.  Summerville entered the playoffs at 20-3, And made it to the state championship game. With 1.7 seconds left, Summerville up 2 at the line one of the students missed the front end of a 1 and 1. The other team grabbed the rebound, dribbled twice and heaved a 65 foot shot, it went in, Summervilles hopes were dashed, just like that a miracle shot ended their season...but wait, the play was under review....It was determined the shot came after the final horn had sounded. Summerville won! There was so much jubilation from the team! Coach Mulkeys widowed wife, Lauren, came & got in the team photo w/ a championship medal wrapped around her husbands helmet. The game was over, but the werent done yet, they went to coaches grave and hung out the rest of he night, congrats Summerville, you guys earned it......
